Long product description

ITscope delivers a long description for each product. ITscope2Dynamics stores it on the catalog item in the Description 2 field, while the Description field holds the shorter product name. ITscope2DYCE additionally distributes this long description over the two fields that DYCE shows on documents.

This happens automatically whenever a catalog item is created or updated by an ITscope product retrieval. No setup is required.

How the text is distributed

DescriptionReceives as much of the long description as fits into the field (100 characters). The text is cut at the last blank that still fits, so that no word is split in half.
DYCE extended description (Happy Text)Receives the rest of the long description, so that no text is lost.

An example. The long description is:

Captain Toad Treasure Tracker for Nintendo Switch – German sales version with numerous additional level packs

The catalog item then shows the following:

DescriptionCaptain Toad Treasure Tracker for Nintendo Switch – German sales version with numerous additional
DYCE extended descriptionlevel packs

If the long description fits into the Description field completely, no extended description is created.

Language

The extended description is tagged with the language that the text was retrieved in. This is the ITscope Portal Language from the ITscope setup, because that language is requested from the ITscope platform. If the language is not set up in your Business Central, the text is stored without a language, which means DYCE shows it regardless of the language.

Notes

  • The full, untruncated long description always remains available in the Description 2 field of the catalog item.
  • Every retrieval updates the existing extended description instead of adding a second one, so repeated product retrievals do not duplicate any text.
  • Extended descriptions that you created yourself are never changed or deleted. ITscope2DYCE only maintains the texts it created itself.
  • If the long description later becomes short enough to fit into the Description field, the extended description created by ITscope2DYCE is removed again.
